Sandip Choudhury

Sandip Choudhury is a distinguished member of the West Bengal Judiciary and currently serves as the Learned District & Sessions Judge, Purulia, a position he assumed on 13th May 2025.

Born in 1968, he completed his LL.B. in 1991 from the University of Calcutta, Hazra Campus, following which he embarked on his legal career as an advocate. From 1991 to 1997, he practiced at the Hon’ble High Court, Calcutta, the State Administrative Tribunal and the Court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (C.M.M.), Kolkata, where he gained substantial experience in both civil and criminal litigation.

His judicial career began on 28th November 1997, when he was inducted into the West Bengal Judicial Service. He was initially posted as a Civil Judge (Junior Division) on probation at the Barasat Sadar Court Complex, North 24 Parganas.

Over the span of his judicial service, Mr. Choudhury has served with distinction in various capacities across district and sub-divisional courts in West Bengal. His roles have included Judicial Magistrate, Civil Judge, Senior Civil Judge, Additional District & Sessions Judge – Fast Track Court (ADJ-FTC), and Additional District Judge & Sessions Judge.

Prior to his current appointment, he held the position of Additional District Judge at the Re-Designated Court, Medinipur District Court Complex.
